Summary of Position:The Senior Staff Accountant will be a key resource in the monthly financial close for The United States Playing Card Company ("USPC"). USPC is owned by Cartamundi, a privately held company headquartered in Belgium. This person will be responsible for a broad range of accounting duties including royalties, broker commissions, fixed assets, payroll, accounting for intercompany transactions, and other general accounting functions. Accuracy, attention to detail, and timeliness are critical to success in this role. Candidate will need to develop effective working relationships across the sales, marketing, and operations areas to support those functions from an accounting standpoint. The cross-functional involvement allows for insight into many areas of the company, providing a great opportunity for further understanding the business. The wide variety of accounting tasks makes this role interesting! Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing and posting payroll into the general ledger using reports from payroll processor. Prepares monthly payroll accrual journal entries and completes related wages, payroll tax, and benefits account reconciliations.
  • General accounting leader for commissions paid to brokers and royalties paid to licensors. Verifies calculations of payments, prepares earnings statements for brokers and licensors, works closely with contract administration to ensure timely processing of data changes, timely payments to our business partners. In near future, will be responsible for establishing the process to collect royalty and sales data from other global Cartamundi entities and coordinating reporting and payments to licensors.
  • Responsible for confirming intercompany sales, purchases, and services with approximately 20 separate Cartamundi global business entities. Researches differences, establishes reconciliation process, and ensures timely payment of intercompany balances are processed.
  • Prepare and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) impacting all areas of the business. Completes account reconciliations. Prepare support templates required for loading to Cartamundi corporate consolidations tool (Tagitech).
  • Responsible for auditing of T&E (travel & entertainment) expense reports and analysis of expenses.
  • Supports the local finance team in keeping on track with the month end close schedule. Prepares Accounts Receivable Aging and Accounts Payable Aging reports and reviews with finance director, follows up with Shared Services AR group and sales reps on past due amounts.
  • Accounting leader for fixed assets including creating new assets in the fixed asset register, tracking project spending with the project managers, assists managers with completing asset close-out forms, processes asset disposals, runs and books monthly depreciation. Ensures all capital expenditures are properly approved, tracked, and reported.
  • Reviews and processes customer debit and credit memos and maintains a tracker of such.
  • Evaluates existing processes, recommending opportunities to streamline and standardize.
  • Provides requested documents and schedules for external audits.
  • Cross-trains with other Sr. Accountant to serve as back-up on all general accounting tasks including sales tax filings and cash book accounting.
  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for assigned responsibilities. Supervise Others: No Requirements:
    • BS Degree in Accounting
    • 3+ years in accounting environment or public accounting experience preferred
    • SAP experience preferred
    • Payroll or royalties and commissions experience preferred
    • Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, vlookups, tables.
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP Ability to self-start, research potential solutions, prioritize work, and follow through
