Job Description:
Job DescriptionSummary The Business Unit Controller is a key
member of the business leadership team. This position directs the
overall accounting function of the business unit and is accountable
in ensuring financial statements comply with industry practices,
regulatory requirements, and accounting principles. This employee
drives the integrity, quality, and availability of financial
reporting within the business unit. The Business Unit Controller
collects, complies financial data and oversees the preparation of
the actual results, forecasts, and yearly budgets and provides
analysis to explain variances while guiding the team to achieve
financial goals. In addition, strategically teaming with the site
cross functional teams to obtain organic growth, increased
earnings, and better working capital utilization by using financial
and business skills to evaluate operating results, detect business
trends and mitigate risks. The Business Unit Controller is a
strategic partner of the business operating team. Principle Duties
and Responsibilities
- Accumulate and report timely accurate and reliable information
on the financial and operational performance of the business.
- Provide in-depth financial analysis to understand and explain
business drivers. Analyze revenues and expenses and present results
and recommendations for
- Develop and improve analytical and forecasting methodologies.
Responsible for the financial planning model providing regular
re-forecasts of plan using actuals, including capital planning, and
better working capital utilization,
- Active participant in influencing business growth, direction,
strategic planning, and financial forecasting by working with cross
functional teams in developing actions to support attainment.
- Complete regular financial analysis, identifying and managing
financial risk, completing financial research, performing economic
and sales forecasting, and analyzing the segments sales and overall
performance.
- Work with site leadership to develop the pricing portion of
commercial proposals. This includes developing anticipated costs,
profit margins, and cash It also includes understanding the entire
proposal to ensure both financial and business risks are
understood, and the price reflects the risks.
- Maintain adequate internal controls over company assets and
maintain written procedures to ensure adhere-nee to management
policies and Sarbanes-Oxley. In addition, identifying opportunities
to enhance controls, achieve efficiencies, increase financial
transparency, or otherwise add value to the company (combined from
below).
- Ensure that all transact ions are recorded to the general
ledger accurately and timely and the appropriate cut off is
established for the accounting period.
- Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate programs, capital
expenditures, product costing, and special projects when
necessary.
- Support the entire segment in policy making and decisions aimed
at increasing sales, enhancing productivity, reducing cost, and
increasing working capital utilization.
- Develop finance team members by recruiting training and
coaching Leads by example, providing finance staff with regular
informal and formal feedback for employee development.
- Calculate variances from budgets, forecasts, and prior year
results to drive growth and profitability
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and
summarizing information and trends.
- Leads in a manner that supports Fairbanks Morse's values of
safety, excellence, respect, integrity, responsibility,
andQualifications and Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA and/or
CPA preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a management position in
finance/accounting.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing
- Previous successful leadership and supervisory experience
required.
- Must have demonstrated strong analytical and project management
skills.
- Experience in Government Accounting standards and regulations
is preferred.
- Proficiency in use of an ERP computer software package
required.
- Expertise in Excel
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to motivate and
enlist cooperation within the corporation.
