Job Description:

The City of Norwood, Ohio is looking for an Account Clerk for its Treasury Department. In order to be considered for the position, candidates must apply before noon on June 12th and pass a Civil Service exam, held on Wednesday, June 14th at 6pm at Norwood City Hall (4645 Montgomery Road, Norwood, OH 45212). Extra credit will be added to each applicant's written examination passing score of 70% or greater for the following: (1) military credit of 20% of the passing score to candidates who submit with their application for employment a military service DD-214 form confirming an honorable discharge, OR (2) educational credit of 10% of the passing score for a bachelor's degree or above, OR (3) educational credit of 5% of the passing score for an associate degree. IMPORTANT: Copies of degree substantiation documents or DD-214 forms MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT or extra credit will not be applied. Applicants must provide all required documents.Job Summary:Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work maintaining a variety of financial records, reports and documents, processing purchase requisitions, keeping accurate records of budget activity, and ensuring competence and compliance with the City of Norwood's applicable laws.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Prepares and maintains financial systems and records.Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.Completes a breakdown of expenses to be charged to proper department; types financial statements; maintains check register.Maintains internal audit policies and procedures.Report funds received and deposited as well as funds disbursed.Prepares a wide variety of accounting, fiscal, statistical and similar reports.Prepares for and assists with outside audits.Maintains financial records for instructional supply funds for all departments.Attends meetings, trainings, and seminars as directedMeets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; may be required to work extra hours, evening hours, weekends and/or holidays as required; due to the nature of the job, when scheduled for on-call assignment, the employee must be available to return to work after normal work hours or on weekends and/or holidays when called to do so.Performs other duties as assigned.Competency:Strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple activities simultaneously.Excellent written and oral communication skillsCollaborative nature and community drivenProficient with Microsoft Office applications include Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as online software programsAbility to operate various office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator and telephoneQualifications & Requirements: High school diploma is required.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a financial or administrative environmentExperience with municipal money managementExperience deescalating tense situationsAdvanced Excel skills (PivotTables, formulas, etc.)Post-high school education in accounting or public administration is a plus.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Ability to: Interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals, and manuals; deal with many variables and determine specific action; apply management principles to solve agency problems; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; exercise independent judgment and discretion; complete routine forms; prepare accurate documentation; compile reports; gather, collect, and classify information; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages; communicate effectively; respond to inquiries from public and/or officials; compile and prepare reports; understand technical manuals and/or verbal instructions; develop and maintain effective working relationships; resolve complaints; travel to and gain access to worksite.
