Learn more about . The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the ideation, planning, and execution of engineering projects related to both mechanical and electromechanical medical devices. This position is part of our Value Analysis Value Engineering (VAVE) Team and is responsible for projects related to cost savings. These projects are typically the result of reduction to product costs through the redesign of commercially released products or, of gains on a commercially released product through the addition of incremental value to the customer through redesign. Some of the responsibilities we will trust you with: Team Member * Works on a cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development process. * Includes planning and executing projects or designs from concept through the launch. * Support and/or lead product changes after launch based on defined needs of the business. Execute Design Process * Work closely with other members of the project team and physicians to define user needs, generate design concepts and develop detail designs. * Performs design and analysis with limited guidance (such as tolerance analysis, FEA, DOE's, simulated use testing, etc.), and supports development of product and process validation plans and testing. * Demonstrated aptitude for product development using 3-D modeling CAD while also showing hands-on aptitude and expertise in materials and component selection. * Understands VOC (Voice of Customer) and the role it plays in making design decisions. Integrates VOC from outside sources into designs. * Completes all necessary documentation related to design, verification and validation, and product transfer in compliance with applicable medical device regulations, engineering documentation processes, and the Company QMS Prototype and Manufacturability * Works with manufacturing engineering and suppliers to understand the considerations associated with manufacturability and works with other team members to produce prototypes and optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly. * Has practical understanding of prototyping methodologies knows when/how to apply them to current design and development efforts. * Familiar with basic concepts of Design of Experiments, statistics, and data collection. Can run a controlled experiment under limited supervision. Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most: * Bachelor degree (BS) in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (or related field equivalent) with mechanical emphasis. * Minimum two years related work experience. * Medical Device experience preferred. * Experience in mechanical processes and capabilities that impact design. Skilled at translation of design into 3D models and drawings and the modification and maintenance of these engineering documents over the course of a project. * Knowledge in the application of design controls during the design/development process. * Demonstrates a keen understanding of various customers (internal or external) needs. Works to address these needs through the engineering or other work performed. Understands that we work for our customers. Appreciates VOC (Voice of Customer) and the role it plays in making design decisions. * Skilled in Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., Solidworks). Travel: Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time; both domestic and international travel may be required.
