The Role:
Kao USA is seeking an Controls Engineer to join our engineering team in process controls. As a Process Controls Engineer, your responsibilities will include control system hardware design, instrumentation network integration, PLC, SCADA, VBA, and Batching software development, system testing, commissioning, and start-up of new capital process systems as well as optimizing existing systems.
This position is also responsible for developing pre-project preliminary designs and concepts, budgets, schedules, and project justification. Project management responsibilities including managing installation contractors, procurement of equipment, verification of equipment installation versus design, start-up, and commissioning of projects. Post-project duties include verification of As-Built documentation, budget reconciliation, and data collection and presentation to support proof of design. Position requires a team player to assist in the development of control hardware and software standards.
What you will do:

  • Design, develop, document, start up, debug, and commissioning of process, packaging and controls capital and expense projects.
  • Assist with development and testing of Operational Qualification (OQ) documents that will test the functionality of process designs and document the results. Develop Functional Description of Operation (FDO) documents that are used as the basis for software development by project.
  • Develop software for batching, continuous, and clean-in-place processes utilizing PLC's, HMI's, server/client application software and Data Collection to support new and existing equipment. Develop control system hardware standards for control system designs.
  • Analyze manufacturing process systems and develop project justifications to meet dynamic business conditions. Increase efficiencies, equipment utilization, and total cost reduction by optimizing existing process manufacturing systems.
  • Will have indirect managerial responsibility in the management of cross-functional project teams in a matrix environment. As such, the engineer will be responsible for leading others to achieve the directives of the team.
  • Provide production support by troubleshooting multi-level software applications, Ethernet and industrial communication networks, personal computers, servers, and server/client software applications.
  • Some on-call support is required on off-shifts and weekends. The support is rotated among the team members.What you will need:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
    • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing and/Project Management preferred
    • Strong technical aptitude of Controls systems (Rockwell ControLogix)
    • Technical depth of control systems software and hardware
    • Solve multi-variable software issues that occur at the sub-second level that can impact production quality, safety, and efficiencies
    • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently. Possess strong follow-up & reliability
    • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a non-technical audience. Ability to communicate effectively across and up the organization
    • Critical decision making, time management, and Strategic thinking
    • No travel required however some on-call support rotated among the team
      A reasonable estimate of the current range is $70,000 - $95,000.
