    Senior Vice President Business Development & Marketing (32484)
    Job Purpose:
    Responsible for the management of the First Transits Sales and Marketing functions. In addition to the operational management of the functions, the SVP is responsible for setting the vision and the development of The First Transit brand and Sales and Marketing direction and redirection and effective strategies for growth for the Sales and Marketing functions that, through innovative thinking will differentiate First Transit from competitors and increase revenue and market share for the company.
    Major Responsibilities:
    Through highly developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, the SVP will assess First Transits capabilities versus competitors and unmet marketplace needs.
    The SVP and his/her team will determine the choice to innovate/develop or source new products/technologies and the exploratory of new market sectors and business opportunities
    Key member of the companys Executive Leadership team and will be
    responsible for long-term strategic planning including long-term growth initiatives and new business opportunities to evolve the brand and company.
    Directs the prospecting and development of new business.
    Builds relationships with key decision-makers and influencers, both externally and internally
    Deep, critical thinking around a consultative sales process with a prospective client. Analyze and understand the clients requirements. Develop sales strategy and customized solutions
    Navigates complex sales channels while continually moving the sales process forward during sometimes lengthy sales processes
    Directs the preparation of presentations, proposals and bid process to strategically win new business
    Gathers market, prospect, and customer intelligence; stays abreast of changes in the marketplace which could open business opportunities for First Transit.
    Initiates strategies utilizing our core strengths in untapped markets.
    Be visible in the transportation industry by attending, networking and fully participating in trade shows, exhibits and other opportunities to promote First Transit as the transportation solution
    Works cooperatively with the operations and finance teams to gain acceptance of operating approach and sales strategy. Works closely with the bid and proposal teams.
    Ensures the transition from sales to service delivery is effectively managed. Be the voice of the customer during the start-up.
    Day-to-day management of sales personnel.
    Additional duties and special projects as assigned
    Describe level of decision making and list examples of common decisions made:
    Determines sales strategy for First Transit and First Vehicle Services
    Provide input on the budget requirements, decide on budget spending trade-offs and allocations.
    Evaluate strategy, multi-channel strategy and pricing strategy, incl. decisions on sales negotiations for national clients, decisions related to web optimization, pricing schemes
    Experience & Skills Required:
    Highly-developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, initially built on a solid foundation of principles and theories learned in business school, and then applied and honed in the rigorous and disciplined business environments
    Demonstrated ability to function as a valued and trusted business partner and advisor to the President/CEO on the broader issues of strategy and business direction
    Strong executive presence and maturity
    A strong leader of people with an orientation toward effectively engaging others, both within and outside his/her organization
    Strategy experience from a top tier strategy firm with a focus on marketing and/or sales strategy OR strategy role at a Fortune 500 company AND at least 10 to 15 years experience in sales and/or marketing leadership roles, featuring progressively broader responsibilities
    Prior experience as a head of marketing or sales of a stand-alone business or substantial business unit.
    A breadth of experience across a range of B2B industries/companies
    Experience in an industry that has hourly / commissioned workforces who work with route sales people or other contract based companies that has: National scope, Geographically distributed operations, Asset/fleet-intensive, People-intensive with organized labor, Cost-focused and low-margin, Business-to-business
    Example sectors include: Transportation and logistics, Consumer packaged goods companies that have distributed hourly / commissioned workforces who work with route sales people or other contract based companies, Medical transportation providers, Contract transportation providers, Other people transportation services, Business-to-business service providers, Outsourced services providers
    Ideally, experienced working in an operationally intensive national or multi-regional context, wherein the executives spend considerable time in the field
    Experience working in financially driven corporations acknowledged for their strong financial disciplines and functions
    Comfortable working in turn-around environment
    Ideally, bring prior leadership and managerial experience in pricing, especially in a bid contract business
    Prior leadership and managerial experience of a sizeable staff, with a reputation as a strong leader of sales and/or marketing professionals
    Has worked successfully in a matrix organization with multiple divisions, shared services, entrepreneurial business leaders and a corporate office
    Has served in the line or as a close business advisor to a President/CEO, ideally as part of the top leadership team of a company or business unit
    Experience supporting a business of comparable or larger scale
    Merger and acquisition experience is highly desirable, given First Transits plans for ongoing growth
    Comfortable and ideally also experienced working in a corporate context wherein substantial community involvement is both desired and expected
    Ideally, has experience working with and relating effectively with a globally based parent company (outside of U.S.)
    An untarnished reputation as an executive of high integrity
    Ideally, brings added ethnic or gender diversity to the First Transit leadership team
    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions (include amount of travel):
    Incumbent must be able to move about the office and between floors; utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
    Typical office environment, operating facilities, maintenance facilities, airports
    Travel 75% of time at peak.
    Will be responsible for delivery of a sales target. The amount will be determined annually.
