The Vice President of Clinical Science, Neurology will lead one or more development programs involving drug candidates in Parkinsons Disease (PD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Alzheimers Disease (AD). You will be responsible for the clinical strategies and plans for our lead molecules and will help ensure the successful execution of our studies across all stages of development. Activities include responsibility for advancing priority clinical programs through study planning and execution, development of biomarker strategies, as well as interpretation of data from these studies. You will interact with multiple levels of management within Alector, key external partners in the medical and scientific community, as well as global regulatory authorities. This role will report to our Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The Vice President of Clinical Science has the following responsibilities: Lead the design and execution of clinical trials for neurodegenerative disease; The ideal candidate will have end-to-end experience initiating, leading and designing an early-phase trial. Provide leadership for programs that integrate the individuals extensive knowledge in clinical science and neurology disease areas with knowledge from the medical community around the world Integrate the scientific rationale, regulatory requirements, input and advice from medical and patient advocacy groups, with commercial goals to build a solid framework for a molecules Clinical Development Plan Collaborate across teams including Research, Regulatory, Biomarkers, Clinical Operations and Biostatistics Develop and manage relationships with clinical counterparts for Pharma-partnered programs Design and implement early and late-stage development plans in neurodegenerative diseases Establish clinical development timelines, incorporating key decision points and Go/No Go criteria for clinical development programs. As required, establish external collaborative relationships to augment Alectors capabilities, in support of the development programs Act as the Development Lead for product strategy teams: Coordinates clinical development plans, including day-to-day lifecycle management, operational feasibility, data results, preparation of meeting materials, communication plans, safety and monitoring, and preparation of status update reports. You will have the following mix of professional and personal characteristics: MD in Neurology or Psychiatry Board certification in Neurology preferred. At least 12 years clinical pharmaceutical development experience in the field of neurodegenerative degenerative diseases with a tried experience in industry drug development. Serving as a subject matter authority (SME): Extensive clinical expertise in the management of Alzheimer Disease (AD), Parkinson Disease (PD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or FTD Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Extensive knowledge of early-stage clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements governing clinical trials, and experience in development of clinical strategy and the design of study protocols. Collaboration Establish strong partnerships within the neuroscience community to present and publish data to a network of key opinion leaders to enable the success and development of this unmet need. Demonstrated leadership and team building skills. Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain working relationships. Experience in integrating translational research activities into first-time-in-human (FTIH) trials to establish clinical proof-of-concept. Experience in the successful filing, approval, and initial launch of a novel therapy. Track record in the planning and execution of early and late-stage clinical Neuroscience projects. Build, execute, and proactively run early stage phase II clinical trial processes. Ability to travel up to 30% Alector is a phenomenal place to learn and experiment.
