Now offering a hiring bonus of up to $20,000 for eligible candidates. Title : Medical Technologist (MLT) Weekend/Holiday: Rotating weekends and holidays. This position will be scheduled (40) hours per week in the Immediate Response Lab at the main hospital located at 2139 Auburn Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Job Overview: Medical Technologists perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures in a wide range of areas: blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, molecular and microbiology. They provide laboratory test results to allow our physician and nursing staff diagnose, monitor, treat and prevent disease. They perform routine and complex laboratory analyses, identify, troubleshoot and correct problems and develop alternatives when necessary. They stay current in laboratory theory and technique, and assume responsibility for problem solving. Laboratory testing requires a high level of independent judgment and interpretation. The Medical Technologist may perform the following duties: + Performs waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. + Performs analyses on human body fluids (including urine, blood or other body fluids) that require advanced evaluation and judgment skills in areas such as hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, urinalysis, infectious disease and molecular testing. + Ensures that specimens received by the laboratory for analysis are acceptable and appropriate. + Correlates clinical information and/or previous lab results and reports discrepancies to supervisors and other appropriate personnel. + Consult with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. + Prepares reagents necessary for daily operations, performs quality control testing to identify potential issues. + Ensures operation of analyzers by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. + Detects malfunctions as they occur by review of instruments results and troubleshoots the problem with technologist or service representative assistance. + Participates in established quality assurance activities, quality control testing of lab reagents and maintenance of equipment. + Participates in external proficiency testing and in continuing education opportunities to remain updated on changes in the Medical Technology field. Education: + Route 1: An associate degree (or graduation within 3 months of employment) or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a college/university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency, AND successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program within the last five years. + The education received from a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program is acceptable for a period of five (5) years from the date of completion of that program. After five years, the applicant's eligibility will be based on clinical laboratory experience as stated in the current examination eligibility requirements. + Route 2: An associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, AND CLA(ASCP)*certification. + Route 3: An associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, AND successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course**within the last ten years. + Route 4: An associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, AND three years full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids in the U.S, Canada or an accredited laboratory***within the last six years. Licenses and Certifications: + MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent is required within 6 months of employment. + Equivalent certifications include: CLT(NCA) and MLT(AMT)
