Summary / PurposeThis position is responsible for the management of
health and welfare benefit plans and time-off programs, including
development, analysis, implementation, administration,
communication, and program coordination across CommonSpirit Health.
Manages plans, at an annual cost of more than $1 billion, including
medical, pharmacy, life, short and long term disability, flexible
spending and health savings accounts, vision, dental, EAP,
paid-time-off benefit programs and voluntary benefits. Serves as a
liaison and manages relationships with insurance carriers, TPAs,
consultants, and collaborates with system, division and local
groups such as Payer Strategies, HR Support Services and
Technology, HR leaders, business partners, and EmployeeCentral
Contact Center.Essential Key Job ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with
the System Vice President of Benefits, System Director of Health
and Welfare Benefits, and System Director of Well-Being and Benefit
Engagement to ensure that the strategic direction of health,
welfare and time off programs are aligned with CommonSpirit
Health's Mission, Vision, Values, business objectives and local
needs.Researches, evaluates, and recommends changes to benefits
programs by working closely with vendors, consultants and TPAs to
better align with the CommonSpirit Health benefits and rewards
strategies. Assesses and monitors effectiveness of current, new or
proposed programs initiatives and reports financial and employee
impact. Develops measurements and reviews plans' utilization and
performance against benchmarks.Responsible for project
coordination, including implementing new benefits programs or
vendors, streamlining existing programs, and developing cost
projections for proposed and ongoing programs. Responsible for
working with vendors to create corresponding specifications and
change orders, identifying work streams impacted by changes,
explaining desired changes to other impacted functions, answering
questions that arise, and working with affiliated teams on change
scope and implementation.Acts as a liaison to divisions, HR Support
Services and Technology, EmployeeCentral Contact Center, carriers,
consultants, legal and TPAs to resolve escalated benefit plan
issues and provides clarification of benefit plan regulations and
provisions. Provides interpretation and guidance on compliance
matters, including state and federal regulations pertaining to
health and welfare benefit plans. Creates and maintains benefit
plan documentation; completes all required regulatory reports and
filings. Assists with coordinating employer-sponsored benefits with
government-sponsored programs.Works with carriers and TPAs to
develop, maintain and provide periodic benefit plan reports for
system office and division leadership. In addition, determines best
practices, system-wide issues, and reviews and evaluates vendor
performance. If service or communication issues arise, identifies
root causes and works with vendors to develop solutions. Works with
carriers and TPAs on their websites, resources, and tools to assist
CommonSpirit Health employees in better understanding of benefit
plans.Manages the annual benefit renewal and enrollment, including
working with carriers and vendors to generate data, preparing
analyses, recommending plan design changes, negotiating contracts
and performance metrics, collaborating with administrator on system
set-up and testing and developing both enrollment and ongoing
benefit communications for employees, leaders and the HR
community.Supports acquisitions and divestitures by serving as a
benefits subject matter expert.Minimum QualificationsRequired
Education and ExperienceFive to seven years of experience in
managing employee benefits plans for a large, multi-site employer
or related field. Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and/or additional
job related experience in lieu of the degree.Required Licensure and
CertificationsCEBS certification preferredRequired Minimum
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and TrainingLanguage and Communication
Ability: Knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for
effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these
theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information
and ideas. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common
scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal
documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints
from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community.Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts
such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply
concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to
practical situations.Decision Making and Reasoning Ability:
Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and
techniques. Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to accurately
analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed
judgment.Influencing Ability: Knowledge of effective influencing
tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and
outside the organization.
