Expected Starting Salary Range: 27.60 - 35.28
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform data analysis for research projects: Work
collaboratively with research groups for the analysis of
single-cell and bulk genomic datasets. Perform quality control,
sequence alignment, statistical analyses, functional annotation and
network. Integrate in house and public datasets across from
different patients, disease states and across species. Evaluate the
contribution of complex biological or technological covariates from
large-scale genomic results (e.g., batch effects, sex). Evaluate
results at the gene, pathway and systems-level, integrating
detailed biological knowledge at different steps in the analysis.
Apply statistical analysis or machine learning analysis methods.
Customize data visualization results using existing software
toolkits (e.g., R, python).
- Informatics operation: Applies existing software to support
sequence alignment, inter-sample comparison, algorithm evaluation,
data management, data retrieval, and web access. Document standard
operating procedures based on best practice. Experience working
with complex metadata and data/results documentation. Assists in
developing tools to support unsupervised sample and gene
heterogeneity analyses. Incorporates institutional resources and
3rd party software into specialized analysis workflows for the team
and clients. Helps to maintain computational infrastructure and
control the flow of samples and information for studies. Works
closely with Biomedical Informatics department to leverage system,
software and knowledge efficiencies.
- Teamwork: Guides and advises less-experienced staff. Trains and
supports staff, residents, fellows, and technologists. Communicate
results outside of CCHMC.
- Project management: Analysts will be responsible for managing
interactions with various research groups and coordinating effort
on different projects. Establish and maintain transparent file
management systems and SOPs for project tracking.
- Publications & Reports: Prepares manuscript materials for
publications and reports about research projects for presentation
at scientific meetings. Strong writing skills and experience in
diverse data visualization approaches helpful. Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Analyst Requirements:
Required:
-Bachelor's degree in a related field
-0 - 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline
Preferred:
- Master's degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computer
science.
Sr. Analyst Requirements:
Required
-Master's degree in a related field
-2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline OR
equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computer science
Skills:
- Data analysis: Knowledge of state-of-the-art bioinformatics
analytical methods coupled with the creativity and intelligence to
advance beyond them. Prior experience with large scale bulk and
single cell genomics is required (scRNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, scATAC-Seq,
WGS, etc.) Experience in biostatistics and proficiency in at least
one scripting languages including R/Python/Perl are required.
- Data management and data mining: Ability to independently
manage and synthesize and integrate data from multiple projects
(data tracking, data summarization, curation, results integration).
Experience mining public genomic databases to identify, download,
process, perform meta-analysis and integrate with inhouse
data.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written
communication skills are essential. Frequent communications between
the analyst and collaborators are required for mutual understanding
of the project goals, experimental design, analysis plan,
implementation and problem solving.
- Biological Principles: Strong understanding of fundamental
biological, disease and genomics concepts, with an inquisitive
nature and the ability to learn.
- Documentation: A demonstrated ability for clear version control
documentation (eg. GitHub).
- Software and technology: Ability to evaluate and benchmark
software. Opportunities for pipeline and software development based
on experience. Senior and lead analysts are expected to be familiar
with relational database and client-server concepts. Capable of
working on Linux, Unix and Windows environments.
- Project management: Excellent project and time management
skills are required. Prioritization as well as managing deadlines
and expectations for collaborators are important.
